 ABOUT THE Competition:

In connection with our Annual Jerry Malloy Negro Leagues Conference we created this annual art competition to inspire and to continue to educate people about this wonderfully important story of the men and women involved in black baseball.  Artists can send in entries in one of three categories for consideration:  professional, amateur and youth (16 and under).  Two years ago we also added a People's Choice Award with artist Tim Carroll winning the First People's Choice with a work dedicated to Jackie Robinson.  (see image to the right).

This competition and the conference which goes with it is the work of the Negro Leagues Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research.  Winning entries will have their art work displayed at the Annual conference.  This year it will be in Pittsburgh, PA from August 6-8, 2015.  The conference is open to the public and you can find all the details here.

In addition to this art competition we also support scholarships, library grants, and grave markers for Negro Leaguers. If you would like to find out more click here.  If you would like to help out in any way, please contact me at lheaphy@kent.eduWe host a silent and live auction as well as having opportunities for vendors and sponsorships.  Our committee chair is renowned Negro Leagues historian Larry Lester and you can check out his website for more details.
